CORNWALL, Ontario – Conservative Party of Canada candidate for the riding of SDSG Eric Duncan opened his campaign office on Wednesday, Aug. 28 and was joined by over 300 supporters throughout the evening, a slightly larger than anticipated crowd according to Campaign Manager Adrian Bugelli.
“It’s great to see the big blue team coming together and we are feeling very confident cutting the ribbon tonight with knowing the numbers of supporters we have,” said Bugelli.
Supporters from across Cornwall and SDG created a sea of blue inside 691 Brookdale Ave., spilling outside where a BBQ dinner was served alongside popcorn and Dairy Queen treats. Children ran about with blue balloons and many excitedly sported Eric Duncan shirts and pins.
“We’ve got the best candidate possible. Eric Duncan has been training for 15 years and you know, the only downside about Eric Duncan is he’s going to make the former MP look bad,” said retiring MP Guy Lauzon with a laugh.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird was in attendance of the event, marking his first time in Cornwall.
“I’m thrilled to be here,” said Baird. “This is an exciting time for Canada and the Conservative Party. I never would have imagined four years ago that we would be this close to forming a government again.”
Baird said that Andrew Scheer needs MPs like Duncan across the country to encourage sensible economic policies, reasonable foreign policy and a greater focus on voters rather than photo opportunities. Baird commended Duncan’s experience, working for a man with integrity like Guy Lauzon for a number years.
“Working with Guy, I got to know Eric over many many years. He is smart, his is articulate, he is hard working. He is someone who will focus on improving your lives and making it easier for you to get ahead,” said Baird.
Duncan thanked all of his supporters and attendees. He thanked Lauzon and Baird for their leading examples throughout the years.
“We need experienced leadership and Andrew Scheer is the man for the job; I am 110 per cent behind him and I just want to say how grateful and thankful I am for each and every one of you,” said Duncan, commending the grassroots efforts behind his campaign.
The Federal Election is less than eight weeks away, taking place on Oct. 21.
