FINCH, Ontario – This fall, the SDG Library is introducing a new, innovative library space – meet the SDG Library MakerLab!
The MakerLab is a dedicated space designed to support the growing popularity of the ‘maker movement’; the trend of individuals or groups undertaking do-it-yourself (DIY) activities that encourage learning through doing.
Over the summer, the Library’s Finch Branch was redesigned, restructured and renamed to become the SDG Library MakerLab. Special equipment and tools, such as the 3D printer, robotics kits, video production equipment and graphic design tools will be available to provide opportunities for residents of SDG to create and learn.
“There are limited spaces available in SDG for those looking to tinker and explore in this way”, said Jenna Lamarche, District Supervisor for SDG Library, and the lead on this project. “We saw this as an opportunity to fill a need in our communities and expand what the Library was already offering through our portable Maker Kits.”
The MakerLab will open on Tuesday, September 3, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Wednesday, September 25. Access to the MakerLab will be available to the public, individuals or groups, and through special workshops and programs.
