CORNWALL, Ontario – Retired Cornwall Police Service (CPS) Insp. Bob Burnie was the one in the hot seat at the annual Roast and Dinner in support of the Children’s Treatment Centre of Cornwall. The event was broadcast live on YourTV.
Held on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Best Western, a sold out house came out to see Bob, and to see some of Bob’s closest friends take some good natured shots at him.
Close friend Thom Racine, himself a retired Sgt. with the CPS shared some of Burnie’s signature lines and quips with the crowd, such as “I’d give you a nasty look, but you already have one,” and “I can explain it for you, but I can’t understand it for you.”
Burnie was once a member of the prolific celtic band, The Brigadoons, and fellow former band mate and fellow former police colleague Ziggy Leroux shared some of his favourite memories of Bob.
“He has the remarkable ability to be at the right place at the right time, when he needs a favour,” Leroux said.
Bob gave as good as he got however, but remarked that the evening was all in good fun for a good cause.
“I’m just happy they got a large crowd for the Children’s Treatment Centre,” said Burnie. “Let’s hope everyone has a good laugh and a good time and that they get their money’s worth.”
In all, the roast raised $37,800 for the Children’s Treatment Centre, which receives no government funding and is entirely supported through the community.
