CORNWALL, Ontario – Mayors, wardens, councillors and administrative officials from municipalities from across Eastern Ontario arrived in Cornwall on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019 for the annual Ontario East Municipal Conference (OEMC).
This was the second year that Cornwall’s Nav Centre has hosted the event.
Provincial Minister for Municipal Affairs Steve Clark made remarks during the opening ceremonies for the conference.
“I believe this conference has done great things in helping our region work collaboratively and cooperatively,” he said.
Cornwall Mayor Bernadette Clement welcomed her colleagues to the Nav Centre and Cornwall.
“I urge you to take a look at our Cotton Mills district, it has been a wonderful revitalization project,” she said. “You understand that with all of your industrial pasts that we are in transition . . . and this conference is a part of that process.”
One item that the conference will be focusing on is strategic planning, as the Eastern Ontario Leadership Conference planned on unveiling their 2019 Strategic Plan refresh, which focuses on digital integration, better municipal transportation and workforce development and deployment amongst other things.
OEMC will allow municipal representatives from throughout Eastern Ontario to educate themselves and compare notes on shared issues like arena management, managing water assets, climate change, tourism and more.
Wednesday evening also featured Taste of the Town, which encourages OEMC guests to go out and try some of Cornwall and SD&G’s best restaurants.
