SUMMERSTOWN, Ontario – The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) Flight 59 held their biennial COPA for Kids, free flight day for kids aged 8 to 17 on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Cornwall Regional Airport in Summerstown.
“This is an intro to these kids to the world of aviation,” said Fergie Legge, Treasurer for COPA Flight 59. “These are the next generation of pilots and aircraft mechanics.”
Legge has been a pilot for 20 years and says that flying is something that he loves to do.
“As long as I have a runway, I have that freedom to take off,” he said.
COPA expected to have around 80 kids show up for flights on Sunday. Eric Lamontagne, an organizer of the event said that all pilots and planes were certified and that they would be flying the kids to Long Sault and back, at an altitude of around 2,000 ft.
“It’s a chance for kids to see what flying is all about,” said Lamontagne.
