Cornwall man facing 11 charges in domestic assault case

CORNWALL, Ontario – A 28-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on Sept. 21, 2019 and charged with domestic assault and mischief. He was also charged with nine counts of breach of recognizance for failing to reside at a certain address, for contacting his ex-girlfriend, being within 150 metres of her, attending her residence, and failing to notify a change of address to police. It is alleged between August and September, the man contacted his ex-girlfriend and attended her residence, despite his conditions. The man also allegedly assaulted the woman during an argument, and damaged a wall in her residence. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Sept. 21, 2019, police located the man at his ex-girlfriend’s residence. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

THEFT UNDER $5000, BREACH

 CORNWALL, Ontario – John Wesley Cook, 40, of Akwesasne was arrested on Sept. 20, 2019 and charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on Sept. 12, 2019, the man took a camera from a residence that did not belong to him. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Sept. 20, 2019, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Oct. 24, 2019.

ASSAULT CAUSING BODILY HARM

CORNWALL, Ontario – Claude Labelle, 50, of Cornwall was arrested on Sept. 20, 2019 and charged with assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged the man assaulted a woman known to him, causing an injury that required medical attention. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Oct. 22, 2019.

DOMESTIC BREACH

CORNWALL, Ontario – A 63-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on Sept. 21, 2019 and charged with two counts of breach of recognizance for contacting and being within 50 metres of his ex-common-law wife. It is alleged on Sept. 19, 2019, the man had attended his ex-common-law wife’s residence, despite his conditions, and police were contacted to investigate. On Sept. 21, 2019, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

SHOPLIFTING x 3, BREACH

CORNWALL, Ontario – Fowler Thompson, 33, of Lunenburg was arrested on Sept. 21, 2019 and charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and five counts of breach of probation for attending certain businesses and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged between Sept. 11 and 18, the man attended three businesses and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the stores. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Sept. 21, 2019, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Nov. 7, 2019.

BREACH

CORNWALL, Ontario – Christian Champagne, 32, of Cornwall was arrested on Sept. 22, 2019 and charged with breach of recognizance for being outside of his residence with alcohol in his body. It is alleged while investigating a suspicious person complaint, police located the intoxicated man and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION OF A WEAPON, BREACH OF PROHIBITION ORDER, BREACH

CORNWALL, Ontario – Jean Mitchell, 22, of Cornwall was arrested on Sept. 22, 2019 and charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, breach of prohibition order, as well as two counts of breach of probation for possessing a weapon and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the man was in possession of brass knuckles on Sept. 22, despite his conditions, and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Oct. 31, 2019.
