OTTAWA, Ontario – The Pipes and Drums of the SD&G Highlanders have been invited to join the national Remembrance Day ceremonies in Ottawa at the National War Memorial on Monday, Nov. 11.

“The ‘Glens’ or ‘Glengarrians’ as members of the regiment are colloquially known, will join the Pipes and Drums of the Central Band, Royal Canadian Air Force and lead the solemn parade of veterans through the downtown streets of Ottawa up to the National Cenotaph located on Elgin and Wellington street,” reads a press release from the SD&G Highlanders.

The Pipes and Drums of the Highlanders are made up of military personnel who have completed their training as well as retired veterans and family members of active members.

The Highlanders will also be participating in the Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place in Williamstown and Lancaster on Nov. 10 and members of the Highlanders will be at the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Alexandria on Nov. 11 while the Pipes and Drums are in Ottawa.

“The regiment will be participating in the Alexandria service as a way of paying respect to those from North Glengarry who gave their lives in the defence of Canada and as a way of paying tribute to the town of Alexandria during its 200th Anniversary year,” reads the statement from the Highlanders. “Throughout it’s over 150 years of service to Crown and country, a significant number of soldiers who have served under the Colours of the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders have hailed from Alexandria and the greater North Glengarry.”
