CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall was the host for the sixth installment of the nine leg Eastern Ontario Cyclocross (EOCX) series on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, just outside the Civic Complex. The competition welcomed nearly 300 people to Cornwall, with competitors coming from as far away as Ottawa and Montreal.

“It’s actually a long running cyclocross series,” said lead organizer, Vince Caceres. “It happens generally in the Fall…We’ve been at this venue for about 12 or 15 years, and the City of Cornwall has always been super generous.”

Cyclocross is a style of bicycle racing that involves a unique type of bike and usually takes place on a short, off-road course. The grassy hills and bike path which hug Marina 200 provide the perfect location for a cyclocross course.

The nine leg series includes categories for adult men, adult women, senior men, as well as a youth U11 and U13+U15B category.

“We have a lot of participants, anywhere from 6 year old kids to 70 year old adults,” said Caceres.

The EOCX was in the region earlier this year, at the Long Sault Parkway for the 5th leg of the series. The next installment will take place in Renfrew on Nov. 10.

Results from Sunday’s race were unavailable at the time of publication.
