Rick Hicks and Kim Hogeveen take calls for the Hospice Telethon on YourTV Cogeco in Cornwall, ON on Sat., Nov. 9, 2019, while fundraising chair Sandy Collette keeps busy behind the scenes. The Hospice is hoping to raise $150,000 for its largest annual fundraiser (Marc Benoit/ Seaway News).

CORNWALL, Ontario – The annual YourTV Telethon in support of Carefor Hospice Cornwall raised a grand total of $158,400 in just six hours on Saturday, Nov. 9.

That is $5,000 more raised locally for Hospice than the previous year’s telethon which totaled at approximately $153,000.

While volunteers manned the phones taking in donations, the audience at home was entertained through a series of musical performances from such acts as Landslide, Til Whenever, Kevin Rivette, Mike McAnnany, Barry and Company and Syd Gardiner.

In addition to the musical entertainment, there were also personal testimonials from family members who had relatives stay at Hospice.

“We are very grateful for them sharing their stories with us,” said Sandy Collette, Fundraising Coordinator for Hospice Cornwall in a previous interview with Seaway News. “We are bringing them back to a painful time in their lives, so we are very fortunate that they are willing to open to us.”

The money raised this year will go towards the hospice’s operating budget and also towards the replacement of the televisions in patients rooms.

Carefor Cornwall hopes to replace patient televisions with Smart ones that would allow them to have video calls with loved ones who cannot be with them during their time at hospice.
