CORNWALL, Ontario – Scotiabank confirmed in an email to Seaway News on Thursday, Nov. 21 that it planned to close its call centre in Cornwall, the Cornwall Contact Centre, in 2020.

“Scotiabank has announced that it will be restructuring its Canadian Contact Centre network. Starting January 2020, we will be integrating our Cornwall operation into our Ottawa and Toronto Contact Centres,” wrote Patricia Hsiung Director, Canadian Banking Communications, Retail in an email to Seaway News.

Hsiung did not specifically state that there would be no layoffs as a result of the closure.

“Scotiabank has a long tradition of treating our employees fairly, equitably and with respect. Every effort will be made to minimize employee impacts,” she wrote.

The Contact Centre opened in 2010 with 26 employees, by 2015 that number had grown to roughly 100.

Hsiung confirmed that the closure of the Cornwall Contact Centre would not affect the Cornwall branch of Scotiabank located on Brookdale Ave.
