CORNWALL, Ontario – The annual youth Christmas pageant at St. John’s Presbyterian Church was underway Saturday, December 15, 2019, bringing another enjoyable holiday tradition to the congregation and larger public. This year, St. John’s Youth presented A Very Important Christmas Pageant, a light hearted take on the familiar story of Jesus’ birth.

“Every year the young people in the church put on a pageant…I was fortunate enough to get to lead these guys, but they really took it on themselves. We just organized practice,” said Trish Brown, who directed the play alongside Laura McFadzon. “The kids really take the bull by the horns.”

This was the first year at the helm for both Brown and McFadzon. In previous years youth leader Debbie Adams Plant had spearheaded the performance, but has since moved on to other roles within the community.

However, the popular pageant is familiar to many members of the congregation, especially the youth who return to the stage year after year.

“It was really fun to perform for the audience, it’s nice when you hear them laughing at certain jokes and they really look forward to it every year,” said Bella Gwanyama, who has performed for four years running.

Every year, the pageant is held later during the Advent season in December.
