ONTARIO – The OPP have announced that they have successfully disrupted a high-end car-theft ring operating in Eastern Ontario, Central Ontario and Quebec.

Dubbed Project Shildon, the operation which began in June of 2019 has so far seen 97 cars recovered before they could be shipped overseas and have arrested over 20 people.

“This investigation has disrupted a high-end vehicle theft ring spanning throughout Central and Eastern Ontario and into Quebec. We want to remind the public to take precautions when leaving their vehicles unattended including parking in a well-lit area or a locked garage when possible,” said Superintendent Bryan MacKillop, Director of the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau. “There have been hundreds of victims affected and we, along with our partners, will continue to take action against criminals who victimize members of our communities.”

The suspects are facing 350 offences. During the investigation, the OPP state that in addition to the cars, drugs, weapons and other contraband was also seized.

The OPP conducted the operation in partnership with federal, provincial and local law enforcement agencies across Central and Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
