South Dundas Fire battles two structure blazes over weekend

SOUTH DUNDAS, Ontario – Firefighters in the region’s southwestern municipality were busy battling two significant blazes this past weekend.

Fire personnel posted on Twitter that during the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 28, crews were on the scene of a fire at a multi-unit building on 15 Fifth St. in Morrisburg, behind the Morrisburg Village Plaza. Later a photo was Tweeted,showing the wreckage from the blaze, stating that crews were heading back to the station.

Then during the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 30, crews posted that they were called to a single-storey home on 10998 Irena Rd. were fire ultimately destroyed the building. A section of road between Carmen Rd. and Brinston Rd. was closed overnight as a result of the blaze.

Cornwall Seaway News attempted to reach fire personnel for further information on both incidents but was informed that staff will be able to answer questions when they are back in office on Monday, Jan. 6.

At this time the cause of fire and extent of damage in both cases is unknown. It is also unknown if anyone was injured during the incidents.

Busy weekend for the SDFES. Please avoid the area. Roads are very poor at this time, drive with extra care,” read a South Dundas Fire statement regarding the blaze on Monday, Dec. 30 amidst a freezing rain storm.
