Teen assaults officer, tries to take weapon

CORNWALL, Ontario – An 18-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on Jan. 3, 2020 and charged with the following:

*        Assault police

*        Disarm police

*        Assault

*        Mischief under $5000

*        Breach of youth probation x two (for failing to keep the peace)

It is alleged on Dec. 31, 2019, while police were investigating an unrelated matter, the man assaulted a police officer and attempted to disarm a police officer of his firearm. It is further alleged on Jan. 2, 2020, while at the hospital, the man assaulted someone he did not know and damaged a door. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Jan. 3, 2020, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as the conditions stem from when the man was a youth and is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
