Severe weather in weekend forecast

CORNWALL, Ontario – Environment Canada and The Weather Network are warning that the weekend weather for Jan. 11 and 12 might be a little turbulent.

“Light rain or drizzle is expected to develop early this morning and become heavy early Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop to below the freezing mark on Saturday, changing the rain into freezing rain. Several hours of freezing rain may occur until temperatures climb to above freezing again on Sunday. This scenario is expected to result in significant ice accretion over these regions,” reads a statement from Environment Canada.

Environment Canada goes on to caution that wind gusts could reach as high as 70 km/h with rainfall accumulation of approximately 25 mm.

According to The Weather Network rain is scheduled to begin around 4 p.m. on Jan. 10, and will continue throughout Saturday, Jan. 11 before turning into freezing rain late Saturday night, or early Sunday morning. The precipitation is forecasted to turn into snow on Sunday afternoon before clearing Sunday evening.
