CPS safely take barricaded man into custody

CORNWALL, Ontario – At around 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27 the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) were at Edward and Lennox streets after receiving reports on a man barricaded inside a home.

At around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday morning the police announced that the situation was contained and they believed there was no threat to the safety of the public. By 1:55 a.m., CPS stated that the man was taken into custody.

“(T)he Cornwall Police Service (CPS) was responding to a report of a barricaded man in an Edward Street residence, as there were concerns for the man’s well-being. Members of the CPS, including the Cornwall Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators, attended to assist with resolving the situation safely. Paramedics and the Fire Department were also on scene as a precautionary measure,” reads a statement from CPS.
