ALEXANDRIA, Ontario – For the eighth consecutive year, the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame held their annual Polar Bear Dip fundraiser.

There were 18 people who took a dive into the frigid waters of Island Park.

Rodney Shepherd, one of the organizers of this year’s event says that the fundraiser usually brings in around $8,000 to $10,000 and that money is used to help cover costs like maintenance at the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame, which is a community supported organization.

Shepherd took the plunge this year. He said that he once saw the annual New Year’s Eve Polar Bear plunge and wanted to try it himself.

“It is a shock,” Shepherd said. “There are about 20 seconds there where you can’t catch your breath.”
