Peanut Butter Challenge returns, supports Agapè

CORNWALL, Ontario – The Peanut Butter Challenge has returned for the month of February in support of our local Agapè Centre.

The campaign to raise donations of peanut butter, which is recognized as a staple item at Agapè, was originally the brainchild of the late John Earle. Gadbois Insurance Agency has decided to carry on the important campaign in his honour.

“John Earle was a client and friend…(this is) in memory of him,” explained Renee Gadbois, Owner of Gadbois Insurance Agency.

Renee said that when she recently participated in a tour of the Centre, she learned that peanut butter is an important item for many families. With Agapè currently serving approx. 1,200 families, of which 350 individuals are children, peanut butter is a simple and nutritious option that has a long shelf life.

“People can drop off donations or call and we will pick them up,” explained Renee, who said over 100 jars have been donated so far this month, and the Agency is hoping to surpass a goal set by Earle of 401 donations. Challenging specific businesses may also be in the cards for the campaign in 2021.

“The Agapè Centre is thrilled with the initiative taken by Gadbois Insurance Agency,” said Agapè Executive Director Lisa Duprau. “The peanut butter drive being held in February, in memory of John Earle, will help to keep our shelves stocked with this popular and always needed food item. We look forward to our new partnership with the team at Gadbois Insurance Agency as we work together to address food insecurity in our community”
