Man pepper sprays, threatens to kill police officer

Cornwall, ON – A 25-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on January 25^th, 2021 and charged with the following:

·         Mischief under $5000

·         Uttering threats

·         Administer noxious substance

·         Resist police

·         Assault police with a weapon x 3

·         Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x 2

It is alleged during the early morning hours on January 25^th, 2021, the intoxicated man had damaged the walls in his mother’s residence and police were contacted. During the investigation, the man was in possession of pepper spray and administered it in the direction of a police officer and further threatened to assault two police officers with a knife. It is also alleged the man made threats to kill one of the officers. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

THEFT UNDER $5000

Cornwall, ON – Eric Guerin, 46, of Cornwall was arrested on January 22^nd, 2021 and charged with theft under $5000. It is alleged on January 22^nd, the man located a wallet in the parking lot of a Second Street business and subsequently took a quantity of bank cards and money from the wallet before returning into the business. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On January 22^nd, 2021, police located the man and took him into custody. He was charged accordingly and released to appear in court on April 6^th, 2021.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 31-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on January 22^nd, 2021 and charged with assault with a weapon, as well as breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged during an altercation with his common-law-wife, the man assaulted her with a beer can and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – Daniel Carter, 62, of Cornwall was arrested on January 22^nd, 2021 and charged with three counts of theft under $5000. It is alleged on three separate occasions on January 17^th, 2021, the man attended a Ninth Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store on any occasion. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On January 22^nd, 2021, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 6^th, 2021.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 24-year-old man of Cornwall was arrested on January 23^rd, 2021 and charged with domestic assault. It is alleged during an altercation with his girlfriend, the man assaulted her and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

THEFT UNDER $5000, POSSESSION OF BREAK-IN INSTRUMENTS, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Robert Avery, 22, of Cornwall was arrested on January 23^rd, 2021 and charged with the following:

·         Theft under $5000

·         Possession of break-in instruments

·         Breach of probation x 6 (for possessing weapons, burglary tools, and failing to keep the peace)

·         Breach of release order (for possessing a weapon)

It is alleged on January 23^rd, 2021, the man removed a package from the outside of a Concorde Avenue residence that did not belong to him. Police were contacted and located the man shortly thereafter. He was taken into custody, at which time he was found to be in possession of a number of break-in instruments. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Cody Burelle, 23, of Cornwall was arrested on January 24^th, 2021, and charged with breach of probation for contacting a certain person. It is alleged while investigating an unrelated mater on January 24^th, 2021, the man was located with a person he is to have no contact with. An investigation ensued and during the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 4^th, 2021.

FAIL TO APPEAR FOR FINGERPRINTS

Cornwall, ON – Michael Hazuda, 50, of Cornwall was arrested on January 24^th, 2021 and charged with failing to attend for fingerprints. It is alleged on November 20^th, 2020, the man failed to attend police headquarters for fingerprints and an investigation ensued. On January 24^th, 2021, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 18^th, 2021.

TWO QUEBEC MEN ARRESTED FOR FRAUD AND WEAPONS OFFENCES

Cornwall, ON – Wayor Ndem Ngoidi, 21, and Frantz Junior Philippe Auguste 22, both of Laval, were arrested on January 24^th, 2021 and charged as follows:

Wayor Ndem Ngoidi:

·         Fraud under $5000

·         Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

·         Utter forged document

·         Possession of a forged document with intent

·         Breach of probation x 2 (for failing to keep the peace)

Frantz Junior Philippe Auguste:

·         Fraud under $5000

·         Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

·         Unauthorized possession of a firearm

·         Carrying a concealed weapon

·         Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

·         Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with

·         Careless use of firearm

·         Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm

It is alleged the men made a purchase at a Ninth Street business using a fraudulent credit card. Police were contacted and located the men in a vehicle in the area of the business. They were taken into custody, at which time one of the men was found to have a concealed handgun in his clothing. Both men were charged accordingly and held for bail hearings.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Jacob Benoit, 21, of Cornwall was arrested on January 24^th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on January 14^th, 2021 for a robbery offence and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. On January 24^th, 2021, a member of the Cornwall Police Service attended Ottawa as the man was in custody on an unrelated matter. The warrant was executed and the man was held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Christopher Benedict, 40, of Akwesasne was arrested on January 24^th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged on August 12^th, 2020, the man had attended a Ninth Street business and was observed in possession of a quantity of heroin. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On January 24^th, 2021, a member of the Cornwall Police Service attended Ottawa as the man was in custody on an unrelated matter. The warrant was executed and the man was held for a bail hearing.

OPERATION WHILE PROHIBITED

Cornwall, ON – Leon Cook, 40, of Akwesasne was arrested on January 24^th, 2021 and charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited. It is alleged the man was operating a motor vehicle while prohibited from doing so. He attended the Port of Entry and police were contacted. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 2^nd, 2021.
