SOUTH GLENGARRY, Ontario – The Township of South Glengarry is partnering with Cornwall/ Ottawa based company, Food Cycle Science to pilot an on-site food waste diversion solution that will reduce the amount of organics headed to the landfill.
To reduce organics heading to landfill, South Glengarry will provide 100 FoodCycler machines at a subsidized price for residents to test in their homes over a 12-week period. Each resident will track the amount of food waste they have diverted throughout the pilot duration to estimate the total impact of the pilot program.
This program had broad support from council and administration and was based on other successful pilot programs run by Food Cycle Science across Canada. The program will also benefit from funding received by Food Cycle Science through the Impact Canada Food Waste Reduction Challenge.
The cost to participating residents will be $120+HST which compares favourably to a retail price of $500+HST. The reduction is cost is due to municipal discounts from Food Cycle Science, Impact Canada Investment, and subsidization by the Township of South Glengarry.

A sign-up process will be run by Township administration over the coming weeks and interested participants will be able to register for the program on the Township website until July 7, 2021.
