CORNWALL, Ontario – The City of Cornwall is conducting a survey to see how many remote workers there are in Cornwall and how many might be considering moving to Cornwall for remote work.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses across the globe transferred to a work-at-home or remote working model.

According to the City of Cornwall’s Strategic Planning Coordinator, Katherine Wells, pursuing remote workers is one way the city hopes to reach a population of 50,000.

“Council’s strategic plan is clear,” she said. “Attracting remote workers to Cornwall can help us grow our population to 50,000.”

Earlier this year, the City of Cornwall was named one of the Top 10 places to live in Canada by MacLean’s Magazine out of over 400 other cities. Part of the reason that Cornwall scored so high on the list was its appeal to remote workers.

The survey is available in both English and French and seeks to learn more information on the following topics:

  • Remote workers currently living in Cornwall,
  • Folks considering remote work in Cornwall,
  • Cornwall residents currently working from home due to COVID-19, or
  • Cornwall residents with ideas to share about attracting remote workers.

“Cornwall is ideal for remote work: our community offers excellent connectivity and short travel times to the big city,” said Wells.

The city hopes that information gathered through the survey will help City Council and City Administration better market Cornwall to remote workers.
