Cornwall to host Town Hall to discuss Wards

CORNWALL, Ontario – The City of Cornwall will host a town hall meeting on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. to discuss Wards.

This town hall will be a follow-up to the ongoing debate in the municipality of whether or not to return to a Wards system for elections of Councillors.

Since the start of the current term of Council, Councillors Justin Towndale and Todd Bennett have asked administration to both explore returning to a Ward system, as well as cutting the size of Council.

In September of 2020, administration presented to Council the results of a survey conducted to probe the level of interest in a Wards system.

The survey had 1,764 total responses which represents just seven per cent of the 12,488 registered voters in Cornwall. Of the responses, 51.44 per cent voted in favour, and 48.56 per cent voted against.

Participants in this town hall are being asked to register online. The town hall will begin at 7 p.m. and will last for one hour, with subsequent town halls starting at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. based on interest.
