The Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) held a drive-through volunteer appreciation event on July 16th to recognize hospital volunteers who go above and beyond to serve patients, visitors, and assist staff.

Forty-seven volunteers were presented with service awards, notably Claire Bonneville and Gisele Welch were each presented with plaques for 50 years of service, and Margaret Towndale for 45 years of service.

Volunteers could schedule a time between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm to pick up their gifts curbside.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful team of hospital volunteers for all they do on behalf of CCH,” says Jeanette Despatie, President and CEO.

Last year CCH made the difficult decision of asking its volunteers to stay safe at home throughout the pandemic to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the hospital and in the community. Although they have remained out of sight for the better part of 16 months, they have not remained out of minds.

“We understand that this has been difficult for our volunteers; but, please know that we recognize and thank you for your efforts and contributions, and staying safe is truly the best contribution you could make at this time,” said Christine Penney, Vice President of Community Programs, as she welcomed volunteers at the drive-through event.

CCH plans to again welcome volunteers on-site this fall, should it be safe to do so. People who are interested in volunteering at CCH are encouraged to contact Judy Dancause, Coordinator of Volunteer Resources at 613-938-4240 ext. 3519.
