CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Goslings Initiative is encouraging kids to get some summer reading done with a chance to win some prizes with their Summer Reading Challenge.

Until Aug. 31, youth from Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry, and Akwesasne, aged seven to 18 can submit their name on the Goslings website along with details of a book they read this summer for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to one of eight pizza restaurants in Cornwall.

One winner will be drawn each Wednesday until the end of the contest.

Sarah Silman of the Cornwall Goslings Initiative had a few summer reading suggestions for youth of different ages.

“For the 7-18 age group I would suggest some of my favorites I read at those ages: Harry Potter, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Artemis Fowl. The older kids/adults might enjoy Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu, a coming of age story about a teenager who finds her voice in a difficult situation,” Silman wrote in an email to Seaway News. “For any kids unsure what to read, I suggest reading books that movies you enjoy are based off of. If you know you like the story in the movie, you will like the book, that’s a great place to start. For older audiences I would suggest The Guest List by Lucy Foley which was a mix between drama and suspense.”

Silman shared some of what she herself is reading this summer.

“Right now I’m reading John Green’s The Anthropocene Reviewed, a delightful nonfiction book about the things that bring the author joy as well as the Dark Tower series, by Stephen King,” she wrote.
