WILLIAMSTOWN, Ontario – The Glengarry Nor’Westers and Loyalist Museum has received $13,900 in funding from the Ontario Trilium Fund (OTF). The money will be used to help create online exhibits, digitize its collection, and make their building in Williamstown more accessible.

“With these funds, the museum has overcome pandemic limitations and ensured safe and effective delivery of educational content to a much wider community, including students learning from home. The grant has also ensured that people of all abilities can enjoy the museum’s offerings,” reads a statement from the museum.

With equipment purchased with the funding, the museum was able to make a film centered on the North West Trading Company. The film will be available online and the museum hopes to host an in-person premier later this year.

“A project of this magnitude and scope would not have been possible at the museum were it not for the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” said Keleigh Goodfellow-Théorêt, Curator at the Glengarry, Nor’Westers and Loyalist Museum. “We are so thrilled at the opportunity to share what the museum has to offer to such an unprecedented degree.”

The grant funding has also been used to make the museum’s collection more accessible. The North West Company exhibit on the second floor of the museum is currently only accessible to those who are able to climb the building’s 19th century staircase. This exhibit was chosen as the first to be digitized.

“I want to commend the Museum staff for their hard work and diligence to ensure they are able to overcome the pandemic so that residents can access their important historical and cultural assets,” said Jim McDonell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.
