CORNWALL, Ontario – The search is over, and Rita Cooper couldn’t be happier.
The Brinston woman is the winner of $1 million, the owner of a ticket that was purchased in Cornwall June 18 at the CNIB Lottery Booth at Wal-Mart.
“It was my 48-year marriage anniversary so I bought an extra ticket,” she said. “I checked the ticket at the truck stop and the clerk told me I won $1 million!
“I was so shocked I had to hang on to the counter for dear life!”
Rita immediately went to share the news with her husband who was having a bite to eat in the restaurant.
“I gave him a kiss and told him ‘That’s the first time you’ve been kissed by a millionaire!'”
The 78-year-old retiree plans to contribute to her grandchildren’s education, bank some of her winnings and treat her husband to another diner, but at a place a little more upscale than the truck stop.
