CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Fire services told Seaway News that their investigation has lead them to believe that the cause of the fire at the Rendez-Vous pub was electrical.

Fire Chief Pierre Voisine went on to say that a financial assessment of the damage will be done.

The Rendez-Vous Restaurant at 1213 Pitt St. was the scene of a fire on the morning of Sunday April 16.

The City of Cornwall Fire Department was on the scene at 10 a.m. that morning. There was no word yet on the cause of the fire, but an investigation is ongoing.

Fire Chief Pierre Voisine told Seaway News that there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

“Fire was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm,” he said. “There were no injuries. Firefighters did a great job of stopping this before extensions to other parts of the building.”

On her Facebook page, owner Guylaine Lefevbre said that she was devastated, but held out hope to rebuild.

“Very sad day indeed,” she wrote. “Thank god noone was hurt. Nothing left to salvage. Will have to start everything from scratch. The Rendez Vous has been my whole life for almost ten years.

“It’s been my home with the good and the bad,” she continues. “I’m totally devasted but I have wonderful people in my life; friends, family, staff, and all the great patrons who all together made this bar the best little bar in town. Thank you all for your kind words and your support. Hopefully we can rebuild quickly. Will keep you posted with the progress.”
