CORNWALL, Ontario – At their next meeting on Nov. 12, Cornwall City Council will be voting on whether they should repeal an old by-law banning arcades within city limits.

As it stands now, zoning restrictions within the city prohibits the creation of arcades and also prohibits businesses from having a large concentration of gaming consoles for commercial purposes.

“(A)rcades have made a come back in recent years, especially in cities such as Ottawa, Toronto, Cinninatti, and others,” reads the proposal. “(T)his zoning restrictions was originally put in place in the early 90’s with the intent to ‘limit illegal drug use and sale.’”

The motion was put forward by Councillor Justin Towndale and seconded by Councillor Dean Hollingsworth, both who feel that the nearly 30 year by-law is restricting business growth in the city.
