Smoothies. The convenient, delicious and healthy way to get a variety of nutrients into your diet.  My family and I love fresh smoothies and at the café, we had three signature flavors.  Swamp thing, Reboot and Purple Monkey.  When my children were younger, this was an excellent way to get a good mix of fruit and vegetables into their diets without the fuss.  Then naturally, over time, they craved these smoothies regardless of ingredients.   Some great fruit bases are strawberries, blueberries and banana. Veggies. If you do not mind the green color, adding a handful of spinach or kale is a good way to bring more antioxidants to your drink.  I also love the creaminess avocado brings.   So get those blenders out and get creative!

Swamp Thing Smoothie

This green blend will keep you energized, help to improve digestion and keep those bones nice and strong.  Green vegetables like kale, spinach, broccoli and lettuce are nutrient powerhouses.

1 handful of mixed greens, spinach and kale

1/3 cup of broccoli florets, and green apple cubed

1 banana

Fill will a filtered water and blend until smooth.  Depending on your blender, some people might want to strain it if you do not like the small pieces.

Reboot Smoothie

The anti-inflammatory kick comes from the combination of cinnamon, turmeric and a bite of ginger to increase nutrient absorption.  When mixed with oranges, you get an added immunity boost with lots of vitamin C.

1 full carrot washed

1-inch piece of ginger

Pinch of cinnamon, turmeric,

½ cup orange juice (add more if needed)

Splash of coconut milk

Place all ingredients in order and blend until smooth.

Purple Monkey

Blueberries are high in anti-oxidants, vitamin C and K, iron, and manganese. The fresh mint helps in digestion, inflammation and great for the eyes.  So stop monkeying around, get your berries in, and level up your day!

1 handful of freshly washed blueberries

1-whole sprig of mint, rinsed

1-whole banana

½ cup coconut milk (add more if needed)

Place all ingredients in order and blend until smooth.
