Unprovoked attack on mall maintenance staff, and Speedway Days are here!

Did you know that last week, on Tuesday morning, in the parking garage, one of Cornwall Square’s maintenance team members was assaulted by a teenage “young punk” on a bicycle.  The highschooler had just been asked to leave the parking garage and make his way to school by mall Security personnel and proceeded to leave the parking garage. However, along the way this “young genius” decided not to leave as requested but return to the second level of the parking garage and express his displeasure at being asked to leave by violently and without provocation assault the unsuspecting mall maintenance team member who was cleaning up that area of the parking garage.  The perpetrator deliberately and with forethought attacked our maintenance team person by punching him in the face causing his nose to bleed profusely and sustain cuts from his lower forehead to the tip of his nose then pedaled away.

Police were called, responded quickly, took appropriate statements, apparently identified the violent perpetrator who was apparently known to them.  No further information has been made available on subsequent actions by the police opposite the cowardly perpetrator as of April 18th, 2024.

Our maintenance team member was taken to the Cornwall Community Hospital Emergency Department for observation and treatment.  Some 7 hours later, our maintenance team member found out that his nose was not broken but his face was by then very swollen, and the series of facial cuts did not require stiches but antiseptic treatment over days.

Thankfully our maintenance team member returned to work a couple of days later but showing signs of an unprovoked attack.  Meanwhile, at the time of writing this column, the police were still carrying out their investigation, witness statements are being taken, additional evidence is being collected and a determination of the severity of the charges to be laid against the young perpetrator are being determined.

On an editorial note, this behavior cannot be condoned and is the latest example of unchecked violence.  Perpetrators of such premeditated and unprovoked violence need to feel the full weight of punishment from the justice system before their actions escalate and cause more severe harm.

Did you know that “Cornwall Motor Speedway Days” start this Friday morning.    The vehicles will be on display throughout the main level of the mall during Mall Hours on Friday April 26th from 9:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday April 27th from 9:30am to 5:30pm and on Sunday April 28th from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

Thought of the week: “You are the one who chooses your attitude, choose wisely”.
