What once was a male dominated industry, an Old Boys Club if you will, has exponentially grown into a female dominated landscape. CREA (Canadian Real Estate Association) statistics currently show that more than 60% of Realtors in Canada are in fact female. CDREB (Cornwall District Real Estate Board) statistics show that right here in our very own SD&G, there are currently 258 active members, 101 of them are female agents and with 39 female staff members throughout, that makes up over 54% of the CDREB roster.
Women make excellent Realtors®. The natural instinct to provide a “home” is a beneficial skill when assisting clients. Females are by nature better listeners, communicators and with the ability to empathize easier, buyers and sellers know they are in capable hands.
Most female agents will tell you their reason to become a real estate agent was the flexibility of their schedule and working hours. The freedom to work around obligations especially if they have children and still giving them the opportunity to be a businessperson is a big draw.
The income potential that is out there for women to earn in real estate is amazing and connecting with people to deliver their dream home or helping seniors to downsize and move on to the next phase of life, whatever the case may be, is a win/win for all and a natural satisfaction for a female real estate agent.
Being a business owner already, I wanted to expand my knowledge and capabilities. Real estate suited my personality and my life. I chose the Royal LePage Performance Realty Brokerage as they are all about empowering women. Their diversity and inclusivity is top notch as results show by ranking Top 50 for the Best Workplaces Canada™ for Women category from 2012 to 2020. Proudly boasting that for five of those years, we ranked Top 5 in all of Canada with two of them being First Place! Royal LePage Canada is also the only Canadian real estate company to have its own registered charity. For the last twenty five years Shelter Foundation has been dedicated exclusively to funding women`s shelters and domestic violence prevention. To date, $41 million dollars has been raised and supports 200 local women`s shelters and national partners.
Thank You Ebby Halliday “The very First female in Real Estate”.
