ALEXANDRIA, Ontario – On Wednesday, March 22, various rural conservation agencies will partner to host the 2017 Landowner Stewardship Lunch & Learn at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will give local landowners the opportunity to share a good meal and great conversation.
In its fourth year, the event hopes to showcase the importance of rural landowners, who are the life blood of Eastern Ontario and have been stewards to the land for generations. Partners for this year’s event include the Alternative Land Use Services Program (ALUS), the St. Lawrence River Remedial Action Plan (RAP), Raisin-South Nation Source Water Protection, both the Raisin Region and South Nation Conservation Authorities, and the S.D. & G. chapter of the Ontario Woodlot Association (OWA).
The theme for this year’s program is ‘Getting Back to our Roots’ – an exploration of agri-forestry and its unique place within rural best management practices. To accompany the theme, a complimentary lunch will be provided by Maxville’s Jambel Cuisine.
Guest include Lancaster’s maple syrup guru, Luc St. Pierre, the Eastern Ontario Nut Growers Association, Chris Kinsley of the University of Ottawa, and rural waste water treatment system designer, Rene Goulet.
Speakers will also be on hand to discuss the latest news from the ALUS program and rural projects from the Raisin and South Nation Conservation Authorities. Booths and updated information will also be provided from the S.D. & G. chapter of OWA and other local stewardship programs.
Participation is free, however, there is limited space so please RSVP by March 20 by calling Raisin Region Conservation Authority at (613) 938-3611 or by e-mailing Josianne Sabourin to reserve your seat at josianne.sabourin@rrca.on.ca.
