Former South Stormont Councillor has passed away

SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – Barry Brownlee was a business man and a public servant for most of his life. Barry was described by Jim Bancroft the Mayor of South Stormont as a man who’s "heart and soul was with the community." He passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at the age of 79.

A councillor for the village of Finch for many years, he became a councillor in South Stormont in 2000 after he moved to Ingleside. He continued to serve the community up to 2014.

Mayor Bancroft served with Barry on Councillor for six of those 14 years.

“He was soft spoken, dedicated to the community, loyal, always put the rate payers before himself and a wonderful family man,” Bancroft said.

In addition to his public service, Barry was also a business man in the community. Longtime owner of Brownlee Funeral Homes, he also for a time was a part owner of the Cornwall Royals.

“He really knew the community and he really had a feel for people,” said City of Cornwall Councillor Claude McIntosh. “I never heard a bad thing about him.”

Barry leaves behind his wife Heather, sons Chad and Todd and grandchildren Makenna, Landon, Madison and Sam.

Visitation will be held at the Brownlee Funeral Home 14815 County Road 2 Ingleside on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. 

A service will be held to celebrate Barry’s life on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church in Ingleside with Reverand Feris Chamas officiating.
