CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Community Police Service states that it received 11 reports of thefts from vehicles this past weekend, Dec. 7 to Dec. 10.

“Since Thursday night there has been 11 streets targeted and not all victims report that their vehicles are rifled through, so we have had a least 11 complaints,” Dan Cloutier of the Cornwall Community Police Service stated to the Seaway News.

CCPS tweeted out some of the streets where the reported thefts occurred and they include:

Robin Crt., Patricia Place, Champlain St,, Lancaster Cres., Seventh St. West, Lochiel St., Stormont Ave., Thirteenth St. West, Amelia/Eight St., Seventh St., Eighth St. East.

The CCPS is taking part in the Lock it or Lose it campaign, a province wide effort to prevent theft during the holiday season.

“Ontario police services are launching this year’s Lock It or Lose It campaign during the holiday season because it’s easy to be distracted and leave vehicles unlocked or valuables in plain sight during the holiday hustle-and-bustle,” the CCPS says in a statement. “CCPS will use Lock It or Lose It notices throughout the year as part of our on-going crime prevention efforts.”

The CCPS goes on to state that they will be taking active measures to make sure cars are locked.

“During the Lock It OR Lose It campaign, police officers, auxiliary officers, and crime prevention personnel examine parked vehicles to confirm they are locked and that no valuables have been left in plain view” the CCPS statement reads. “They place a small notice on vehicles checked indicating what safety precautions were neglected and offer simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notices also congratulate drivers who have secured their vehicle.”
