CORNWALL, Ontario – This Saturday, Dec. 2, Diversity/Diversité Cornwall hosted a painting workshop at the Cornwall Public Library.

Those in attendance had the chance to meet some of the group’s new members, all while creating some festive canvases.

Group president, Stephanie Nadeau says that it was important to her that the group hosted something before the holidays.

“This time of year can be a little crazy,” said Nadeau. “It’s a little bit more of a get-together than a fundraiser, and people are happy to come out and unwind at the canvas.”

Nadeau says that while paint nights have become a popular way to raise money, the group wanted to be as inclusive as possible.

“We wanted to do it during the afternoon to make it more attractive to young families and kids,” said Nadeau. “So far, we’ve had a great turnout and we’re already hoping to do this again.”

With a full roster of events planned for the new year, Nadeau says that the group hopes to create more representation for the LGBT community within the city.

“We’re excited,” said Nadeau. “We’re hoping to do even more events than last year. We really want to hit the ground running.”
