CORNWALL, Ontario – For the second year in a row, Diversity Cornwall hosted a day of holiday painting at the Cornwall Public Library between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

This year, 30 registered attendees had the opportunity to paint and decorate Christmas ornaments. Last year, attendees could try their skills at canvas painting.

“We are just looking for community events that can be for a wide range of ages that we can host at a low cost, so we can provide them free to the community,” said Liz Quenville, Manager of Diversity Cornwall. All art supplies and refreshments were provided during the event.

Quenville acknowledges that this time of year can be particularly expensive for some families in the city.

“I think there are a lot of opportunities and events that people aren’t able to participate in this time of year because there is a cost associated with it…we especially want to make it an accessible event,” said Quenville.

“We do encourage people who want participate in our events…and want to support us to reach out. We are always looking for volunteers and donations so we can keep hosting. We really want to create more safe spaces for LGBTQ families in Cornwall,” she added.

Quenville feels that there are a limited number of activities geared towards LGBTQ families in the area, so Diversity Cornwall is striving to host events to encourage community and show that Cornwall is an inclusive place.
