CORNWALL, Ontario – The Relay for Life is this Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m. at the Maxville Fair Grounds. One team has been working hard in the lead up to the event to meet their fundraising goals.
The Phenomenal Women are a team of 11 sisters, sister-in-laws and friends who all want to do their part to raise money for cancer research.
“We know that one in every two people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime,” said team member Melinda Fenton.
On Saturday, May 26, a week before the relay, they held a garage sale in Cornwall. Selling possessions that team members had donated, by mid-morning that day they had already raised $500.
In addition to selling garage sale items, they also had prepared a bake sale with items that they had made themselves, including delicious lemon seed blueberry cookies.
Their goal was to raise $1,500 in time for the relay.
As of Monday, May 28, the Relay for Life in SD&G had raised $48,651.10 of their $50,000 goal.
