Cornwall’s Cline House Studio welcomed budding artists aged 11 to 17 for a free “Character Creations” workshop on Saturday, November 16, hosted by graphic designer, illustrator, and animator Catherine Lalonde. Participants explored basic drawing techniques, character development, and storytelling, with all materials and snacks provided.
Catherine Lalonde, a former art teacher in Thunder Bay and lead designer for exhibits at the Museum of Civilization, guided the session.Reflecting on the workshop, Lalonde shared, “I’ve given kids the abilityto express themselves through characters. Many don’t realize they’re drawing aspects of themselves, using art as a medium to explore complex feelings, social anxieties, and introspection.”
The event was part of the Social Development Council of Cornwall and Area’s ongoing efforts to provide engaging and creative programming for youth. Melanie Boileau, Project Manager for the council, highlighted the initiative’s goals: “This is part of our ‘Building Safer Communities’ programming, which extends into the fall. By hosting these artworkshops on Saturdays, we’ve seen continued success in providing opportunities for youth to connect and grow.”
The Social Development Council also offers a variety of free activities, including dance workshops, skating, Nerf nights, and swimming. Fulldetails are available via SDC social media.
