CORNWALL, Ontario – Today marks the start of a new term for the Warden of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry, with the return of Jim Bancroft to the chair, after 20 years.
Outgoing Warden Jamie MacDonald took the time to mention Bancroft’s previous tenure as Warden, and briefly outlined the many changes that have occurred in the region since the 1990s, including a quip about the age of former Warden, and youngest ever Mayor of North Dundas, Eric Duncan, who would have only been 8 years old when Bancroft first served.
In his first address, Bancroft discussed the accomplishments of his fellow council members, and touched upon the future concerns for residents of the United Counties, particularly the looming threat of school closures, and how to boost tourism to the region.
“We have much to look forward to in 2017, as well as much to do. The county is strong,” said Bancroft. “As warden I am committed to working with everyone to ensure that we make positive progress.”
