Better be ready to bowl for Big Brothers Big Sisters
The annual Big Brother's and Big Sisters Tim Horton's Bowl for Kids Sake is coming up on Saturday

CORNWALL, Ontario – For 37 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters have received strong support from the community on the bowling alleys of Cornwall.

The lanes open-up at 1 p.m. at Olympia Bowl and the Agora Centre. Each team is made up of four-to-six players and they play one game. The goal of the day is not high scores however, it is about supporting a good cause.

The money raised by each team goes to help get kids into programs that help keep them active, connected and involved in healthy social development.

“This is our bread and butter for our fundraising,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Executive Director Amanda Brisson. “It brings in one-third of our budget. The money goes to our 7 mentoring programs and helps the 110 kids on our wait-list to get involved.”

The event usually sees between 900 and 1, 000 people come out to support the BBBS program.

Every year there are honourary chairpersons/ hosts who help cheer the participants on as they pitch balls down their lane.

This year, the Cornwall Colts will be the host. It is the first time a whole team will be the hosts of the 37-year-old event. Brisson says that having a team of hosts will work out well because they can be at both locations at once.

Brisson said that the Colts were the perfect choice for the host position.

“They are perfect for us because they already care about what we do here,” she said.

As perennial supporters, the Cornwall Colts are already familiar with the work of BBBS.

The Colts donate season tickets for the BBBS kids and also work with community partners like CKMD and Seaway Yarns to make sure that the kids have an opportunity to go and see some CCHL hockey.
