CORNWALL, Ontario – Laurette Doyon recently turned 107 and she wanted to celebrate the milestone with a ride around her community in the City’s new Seniors on Wheels program.

The Seniors on Wheels program was launched earlier this summer and allows seniors to take a ride around Lamoureux Park in an hybrid electric trishaw.

The program was launched by the Cornwall Senior Friendly Committee who received a New Horizons grant which allowed them to lease the trishaw from Waterfront Tours.

Volunteers for the program are being coordinated by the Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie and the Seaway Valley Community Health Centre.

The trishaws are based at the east parking lot of the Cornwall Civic Complex near Marina 200 and seniors can get rides to the trishaws from Handi-Transit free of charge by calling 613-930-2636.
