Cirque du Soleil adds third show in Cornwall

CORNWALL, Ontario – Cirque du Soleil has added a third run time for it’s new show, AXEL, in Cornwall.

Originally slated to run on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5, both shows sold out quickly, so a third show has been added for Oct. 5.

The new schedule for the event is Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available on the Cirque du Soleil website.

The Cirque du Soleil crew will be moving into the Cornwall Civic Complex on Sept. 15 to prepare for and rehearse the show. Janice Robinson, Facility Rental Coordinator with the City of Cornwall said on the day that they move in, the building will be blacked out to help preserve the show’s secrecy.

“Every meeting room in the building will be used by Cirque for one of their different departments,” she said. “They make everything from scratch from the music to the sets. They will be bringing in 100,000 pounds of rigging into the ceiling.”

Cirque will be bringing 150 employees into Cornwall for the show, and they will be rehearsing for 21 days.

“Having this in our backyard is pretty amazing,” said Robinson. “They will be staying in Cornwall at the Nav Centre and they will be out eating and shopping locally.”
