CORNWALL, Ontario – This Saturday, January 28th, 2017, Farm Boy invited customers to join in celebrating 35 years of continued service at the Cornwall store where it all began.

Customers were able to enjoy a handful of activities such as face-painting, a visit with Farm Boy mascot, Lulu the cow, and a chance to whet their appetites with tasty samples from local suppliers. Those in attendance also had the opportunity to be entered in a draw to win a $100 Farm Boy gift card.

From its humble beginnings as a small 300 square foot fresh produce store on Cumberland Street, the store has done a lot of growing in 35 years, with 23 stores across Ontario and over 3,000 employees to date.

Founder Jean-Louis Bellemare says that the store’s dedication quality has been instrumental in their continued growth and success.

“We started with one store and a truck,” said Bellemare. “Our focus has always been on great food, great service, and 35 years in, nothing’s really changed.”

Bellemare says that the store’s steady growth over the years has allowed them to place even greater focus on providing customers with the best possible experience. “We’ve always tried to hire the best people for the job, because we understand that it’s what makes the store better.”

Having always kept his eyes fixed straight ahead, Bellemare says he’s proud of how far the store has come.

“When you’re passionate about something, all of a sudden, you’ve been at it for 35 years, and you still love it.” said Bellemare. “We could have never envisioned that we’d be where we are today.”

Farm Boy has been twice selected as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies, boasting a unique and friendly, fresh-market shopping experience. The company plans to continue its expansion across Ontario with more stores planned slated to open this year.
