Heavy rainfall warning in effect

CORNWALL, Ontario – Heavy rains are expected to hit the area, causing concerns of flooding.

The warning is in effect for the following areas:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

A slow moving upper disturbance over Lake Huron is expected to generate significant rainfall amounts over much of Eastern Ontario. Periods of rain, heavy at times, will continue into tonight with widespread total rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 mm by Tuesday morning.
Local rainfall amounts of 100 to 125 mm are likely, especially in the St. Lawrence Valley.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
