WILLIAMSTOWN, Ontario – Ah, young love. A time of innocence, excitement and complicated situations.

From this evening until Saturday, Apr. 29, Char-Lan’s spring production, ‘Love Sick,’ will come to life at Char-Lan District High School. The musical comedy was written and produced by grade nine student, Emma Charpentier, and puts a comical spin on the trials and tribulations of relationships.

“It’s a love story that will make you laugh – everything about it is wild,” said Charpentier.

The play goes a step above love triangle with its series of intertwined romances.

“It’s more like a love square,” laughed Charpentier.

Having first sat down to write the play in the summer, rehearsals began in Sept. Much like high school, audiences are going to have to really pay attention if they want to keep up.

For instance, Tommy and Billy are best friends, and Billy has a crush on a girl named Mary. However, Tommy also likes Mary, and their friend, Stephanie has a crush on Billy. Still with me?

“There are a lot of little stories within the play,” said Charpentier. “It’s one thing to write a play, but to see it come to life is the most exciting part for me.”

While tonight is the play’s official opening night, students had the chance to perform a sneak peak for their peers at lunch, as well as a full performance to students at Williamstown Public School.

“We’re all so excited to show the audience what we’ve been working so hard on,” said Charpentier. “I never would have had this chance if I would have gone to any other school, and I think that’s really exciting.”

‘Love Sick’ runs from Apr. 27-29 at Char-Lan District High School and begins at 7:30.
