CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall bowling community is still looking for teams to take part in the first annual McBowl event in support of the Ottawa Ronald McDonald House.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 6 at Quilles Nativité Bowl. All funds raised in Cornwall will go to support the Ottawa Ronald McDonald House, which in turn, helps to support Eastern Ontario families with sick kids.

“Whether you are a seasoned bowler or have never picked up a bowling ball I encourage you to take part,” said Janet Wheeler, manager of Nativity Bowl. “It’s a fun and easy way to help a great cause.”

For families who don’t live near the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), the Ronald McDonald house provides a warm, compassionate place to call home while their child is in the hospital.

Families of Alex Tourangeau and Darby Hazlett can attest to the kindness they experienced at Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House became home to Alex’s family’s when he was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2013. Darby was born at just 27 weeks with a handful of medical issues, weighing only 2.45 pounds. During his four months at CHEO, his family made Ronald McDonald House their home.

“Often, during my stay, I would find renewed strength after a conversation with one of the staff or one of the other parents,” said mother, Mallory Ouellette. “It allowed me and my family to have a place where we felt like we were at home.”

Today, both boys are doing well and will be participating in the inaugural McBowl.

Teams consist of four to six bowlers, with a minimum fundraising goal of $125 per team with charitable receipts to be issued.

“Scotiabank has generously agreed to match funds up to $5,000 so we would really like to get that full amount,” said Alex’s mother, Cheryl Tourangeau.
