UNITED COUNTIES, Ontario – The SDG Library has taken the initiative to prepare Ready to Read! Backpacks, each filled with pre-selected books for young, busy readers.
“We have put together these packs to make it easier for parents and caregivers on the go to borrow library materials for young children,” said Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services in a press release. “The pre-selected materials make it convenient for busy families to have fun reading at home, while supporting early childhood literacy.”
Each backpack may contain five to 10 children’s books that were hand selected by branch staff. The books will cover various subjects and appeal to different reading levels. Each time the backpack is returned, the old book selection will be replaced with new reading material.
Each SDG Library branch will have two backpacks which can be borrowed for a span of three weeks. Backpacks can not be placed, held or renewed.
“This project was made possible with the generous support of the Friends of the SDG Library,” read a statement in an SDG Library press release.
