CORNWALL, Ontario – The firefighters were out in full-force for Sparky’s Breakfast Toy Drive at Blessed Sacrament Parish this Sunday, Dec. 3.
With 185 people coming down to the church basement for a hearty breakfast, Toy Drive organizer, Ian Robertson says it was the biggest turnout they’ve seen in the event’s three years.
“We’ve got 15 firefighters on-hand to help out today,” said Robertson. “Hopefully we don’t run out of food!”
So far, the group has raised close to $2000 for this year’s toy drive alongside Blessed Sacrament Parish, The Cornwall Professional Firefighters Association, and The Knights of the Round Table.
Starting the week before the Santa Claus Parade, fundraising for the toy drive continues until Dec. 20.
“Overall, people are wonderful, and we’ve had a great response,” said Robertson. “We have some amazing volunteers.”
In the next couple of weeks Sparky and his Firefighters will be at: Hyundai’s Stuff The Santa Fe for Sparky Event, Lola’s Pub and Grub annual Christmas Fundraiser for Sparky, Service Canada’s Toy Drive, Cornwall Legion Darts with Sparky, and Christal’s Zumba Dance Night with Sparky and his fire crew.
On Dec. 15, Sparky and 20 firefighters armed with guitars and Christmas carols will visit 25 local businesses to spread holiday cheer while collecting donated toys and funds.
