CORNWALL, Ontario – Viva Italia! The smell of marinara, complete with basil, garlic, and other classic Italian flavours filled the air, and people’s stomachs, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 on Second St. W. the night of Friday, January 13, and it was all for a good cause.

Despite falling shy of their ticket sales goal, the annual MS Italian Night fundraiser, returning for its 15th year in a row, packed the house once again, requiring the use of an overflow room to feed everyone in attendance.

“The Italian Night started as a spaghetti night many years ago…It just keeps getting better. Rumour has it this might be the last one, but we’ll see,” said organizer Karen Torrie-Racine.

Entertainment for the evening included the rare performance of the Kealy-Greer band, featuring David Kalil, Tyler Kealy, and Graham Greer, who only play together for this event.

“We are always thankful to our sponsors for making tonight happen,” said Torrie-Racine. The evening is sponsored by Roy Perkins and Perkins Rona, Cornwall City-Press, The Sign Factory, Casa Paolo, Scotiabank, The Royal Canadian Legion and TC Media.

“We’d also like to add a shout out to Rick Shaver, who we miss very much,” said Torrie-Racine.

Guests were served a full course meal with spaghetti, cannelloni, garlic bread, salad, and more. Proceeds for the evening go directly to support the MS Society of Canada.
