WEBER, Klemens – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Klemens Weber who took his last breath on May 28, 2018. He was 86. Klemens was born in Vienna in 1931 to parents Josephine and Hans, a high school principal who later refused to tow the party line and was persecuted and demoted by the Nazis. After the war he attended the Francisco Josephinum Agricultural College in rural Austria with the dream of owning his own farm, a passion that prompted him in 1955 to leave his family and beloved Carinthian alps and emigrate to Canada. Arriving virtually penniless in Montreal, he worked at a myriad of jobs for over a decade and scraped together enough money to buy a rough 330-acre spread in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, his ‘Windfall Farm’. He weathered the ups and downs of farming life, losing a herd to disease and a barn to arson, but eventually did realize his dream of owning and running a successful dairy farm. Klemens was immensely resourceful and a great problem solver. He remained forever curious and interested in politics and current affairs. He enjoyed engaging his children and grandchildren in heated discussions and challenging their views and opinions. He kept busy with his garden was into his 80s, still mowing the lawn and tending his flowers while tethered to his oxygen. We are so glad that he found happiness in his later years with his best friend Heather. He was predeceased by his siblings Hannes, Hilda, Bruno and Hermann. He is missed by his sister Elizabeth, his children Gabriele Thomas (Tony Glen) of Chesterville, Ontario, Andreas Thomas (Rachel Freudenburg) of Boston, MA, his grandchildren Miranda Glen of London, UK, Tristan Glen (Avalon Moore) of Halifax, NS, Franziska Glen, and Alice Thomas (Andre Stevens-Rosa) of Madrid, Spain and his great-grandchild Arlo Stevens-Rosa Thomas and his numerous nieces and nephews in Austria and Germany, his partner Heather Tobiasen’s extensive family, neighbours and friends far and near. The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018 at our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Ingleside at 11am and will be followed by a reception in the church hall. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.brownleefuneralhomes.com

FONTAINE, RICHARD “RICK”
– It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Rick Fontaine. He passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Ottawa Heart Institute. Beloved husband of Lynda Fontaine (Minard), loving father of Derek Fontaine (Niki) and Tina Besner (Marc). He was blessed with seven grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly – Alexis, Paige, Chase, Nicholas, Alexzander, Bryan and Shane. Big brother of Ron Fontaine (Darlene), Randy Fontaine, and Lise Barkley (David). Godfather to Krysten Gillard (Julian). Rick will be lovingly remembered by his extended family of many aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Lucien Fontaine and Fernande (née Marier) Fontaine. Rick enjoyed life to the fullest. He was always the man who would dress up as Santa for the children at school. He was a magician and entertained the grandkids with his money growing tricks. Rick had a passion for cars and often took long drives with a few adventurous detours along the way. He retired from Canadian Tire as Service Manager, after 42 years. He then took the following 5 years to work part time for Cornwall Gravel. Always social, he was once a member of the Cornwall Lions Club and enjoyed many summers as flagman at the Cornwall Motor Speedway. After suffering a cardiac arrest in 2012, we valued every bonus day with him by our sides. We thank the angels who helped that day, performing CPR, along with the many great medical professionals and hospitals who allowed us to have him in our lives just a little bit longer. We are truly grateful to all who have been part of his journey, and so was he. It’s not surprising that in the end, the man with the biggest heart of all would pass away from heart complications… he wore it out by loving those around him. SMITH, CINDY – March 18, 1960 – April 6, 2018 Cindy (Cynthia) Jean Smith, with not much choice, kicked the bucket on April 6th, 2018. Waiting for her were her parents Robert Raymond (step-father), her mother Sheila (Sauer) and her childhood hero, her brother Blain. Left behind to reminisce are her second family, everyone who had the opportunity to work with Cindy and befriend her at Heartwood LTC. Her love for the residents shone brightly. Cindy was an avid “Royal Family” fan, lover of cats and a vessel of knowledge. Somehow in life she found a way to take silly, mundane things, and make them special. She always said she wasn’t much of a saint, but in our eyes she was one of a kind. Cindy had the heart of an angel. She always put everyone and their needs before her own. We will miss her sarcastic remarks, her opinions and her crazy laugh. To the Heartwood Staff (her family) past and present, there are no words to thank everyone who helped make this easier for Cindy. You put your hearts into looking after her last wishes, ensuring she was never alone, and filling her room with friends and laughter, and for that, thank you. On behalf of Cindy and her family, we would like to thank everyone who cared for her here at the Cornwall Community Hospital, the Ottawa General, the Glengarry Hospital, and last but not least, Carefor Hospice Cornwall. If so desired, Cindy requested that donations be made to Carefor Cornwall Hospice or to Heartwood LTC (palliative care program). “Your smile we no longer see, your cheerful laughter is gone.” “Cindy Smith”, more than a name tag!!
